Wake-up controls

Alarm clock with challenges: which one suits you?

Ever tapped Stop and gone straight back to sleep? A challenge gives you a small task to finish first. Here's how the options compare.

What happens when you press Stop?

With a regular alarm, one tap stops the sound. With a challenge, you need to finish the task first. It's worth trying if you often press Stop without really thinking about it.

You can still go back to sleep afterward, so a challenge isn't a guarantee that you'll get up. Choose something you're comfortable doing when you've just woken up.

Hold, Math, Maze or Tic-tac-toe?

  • Hold: keep a finger on the button for five seconds. Progress appears on the ringing screen; releasing early resets it. There's no puzzle to solve.
  • Math: answer a short calculation before stopping. Try a test alarm to see if you like it.
  • Maze: navigate a route using touch or the directional controls. Drag through the maze or use the arrows.
  • Tic-tac-toe: win the game before dismissal. Choose your moves until you make three in a row.

One tap remains useful for ordinary reminders. You do not have to turn every alarm into a challenge.

What is free in BlockWake?

One tap, Math and Hold are available in BlockWake’s free version. Maze and Tic-tac-toe are Pro challenges. Free users can see those options and open the upgrade explanation; Pro users can select them.

Pro is a one-time purchase, not a recurring subscription. The price shown in Google Play is the amount to check before purchasing. For a broader comparison of payment models, see choosing an alarm app without a subscription.

A sequence can have default wake-up controls, and an individual alarm can have its own settings. This lets you keep a straightforward first alarm while making a later Stop action more deliberate, if that fits your routine.

Try it before bedtime

Set a test alarm a few minutes ahead, lock the phone and complete the challenge. Check whether the text is readable, the controls are reachable and the chosen task feels manageable. If not, change the task before using it for an important morning.

Check the Snooze setting too. Adding a Stop challenge doesn't turn Snooze off.

For the exact setup flow, follow our challenge alarm setup guide. If the alarm does not appear or sound during your test, fix the phone’s alarm settings before changing puzzle difficulty.
